You can rest and enjoy the fruits of your labor now, or you can finish up anything that you have not accomplished in the laundry area yet. Perhaps you still have to utilize those organizers. Or maybe hang things on the walls.

I will leave the January information up for the rest of the month, then I will be switching to the February project. This will begin posting on or around February 1st.

I have begun offering past editions in PDF form, and you can find where to purchase them on te side bar. So far, we have covered:

  • The kitchen
  • The Living Room
  • The Bathroom

Be Thankful!!

Organizing the Laundry Area January 18, 2010

Organization is an important step in keeping the laundry area up.

  • A few knick knacks will look nice, if arranged on a shelf above the window.
  • A basket can be used to store take out and deliver odds and ends such as hair ties and brushes and small toys that have been left in pockets.
  • Keep a decorative jar or a basket on a shelf to hold money found in pockets. This money can be used as rainy day money. The rule in my house is that the person who does the laundry gets to keep the money.

If you want to purchase organizers, add them to your master shopping list.

Decorating Tips January 17, 2010

Decorating is important for that homey look which a lot of us enjoy. It is good to keep it simple, though.

  • Consider hanging a wreath in the laundry area, created with the appropriate colors for the room.
  • Hang sachets in the dirty laundry area, that smell sweet or spicy.
  • Add decorative tie backs to the curtains.
  • Hang a swag over windows and/or entryways.
  • Hang small, seasonal wreaths in the windows.
  • Incorporate potpourri in decorative containers into your decor.

Happy Decorating!

It can be hard to decide what extra touches would be appropriate for the laundry area. Here are some tips to get you started.

  • Add a small basket to the counter for small items.
  • Decide on a color theme for the laundry area.
  • Hang a few, small decorative shelves in the room. Place a nick nack on each.
  • Use embroidered towels in the sink area.
  • Add decorative shelf paper to cupboards and shelves.
  • Keep a couple of laundry aid books in the laundry area that contain homemade alternatives to expensive cleaning products or tips for cleaning cheaply.

Tomorrow I am offering up more decorating tips!

Master Shopping List January 15, 2010

Each single mom needs a master shopping list, and she should place somewhere handy. Perhaps near the large calendar on her wall. This list is not taken to the store with her. Rather, it is a reference for shopping list creation.

  • Add anything from this month  that you still need to acquire to the master list that you created in October.
  • As you obtain each item, cross it off your master list.

That is it for today. See you tomorrow.

Energy Efficiency January 10, 2010

Incorporating energy efficiency into your laundry area will help you to save money and to reduce energy use. Stay within your budget, and switch things out as you can afford to.

  • Lightbulbs need to be switched to energy efficient choices.
  • Are you in the market for a new washer/dryer. Look into energy and water efficient models.
  • Window film/solar curtains, specifically made to keep heat out in the summer and in during the winter months.
  • Do not use nightlights or plug-ins. The plug-ins pose fire hazards anyway.

Add these items to your shopping list if you do not have them listed already.

Time for a break. The 13th would be a good day for shopping. Mark your calendars!

Go through all cleaning and other supplies that are kept in this room. When getting rid of things, make sure that you are disposing of items in the most environmentally friendly manner. Make a list of necessities for cleaning and add them to your master shopping list.

That’s it for today!

Letting Go January 8, 2010

Now is the time to let go of what we do not need to place back into our laundry areas. If you have not found another logical place for an item, then it is time to get rid of it. In what ways can you accomplish this?

  • Give the items away to friends and family who can use them.
  • Get rid of them on Freecycle.org.
  • Donate them to a thrift shop or other charity.
  • Box them and store the box for an upcoming yard sale.
  • Set them out by the road with a big FREE sign.

No matter what you do, get these items out of the house now or you risk having them around for years.

Stay tuned for todays other post in order to finish todays tasks.
